As in the school’s other artistic subjects, the focus in the music subject is on the creative approach to cultural phenomena as well as the perception and reflection of the artistic and aesthetic diversity of culture and the reality of life. The subject of music is intended to offer our students cultural orientation. Its task is to support them in developing their musical-aesthetic thinking and actions as well as initiating and realizing individual creative activity.
In music lessons at secondary level I our students acquire basic skills that will enable them to consciously engage with music in their areas of life and experience and to engage with it. They continually expand and deepen their individual musical-aesthetic skills as well as their abilities and skills that relate to all areas of experience, knowledge and action in dealing with the diversity of music. This further development is achieved primarily through one’s own production of music, i.e. through singing, playing instruments, creating and re-creating the sound. In addition to listening, naming, analyzing and interpreting as well as classifying, explaining and evaluating music, it is a curricular and extra-curricular focus at our school. Music lessons are action and competency-oriented, among other things through its orientation towards the experiences and interests of the students, through situational learning, cooperative learning approaches and various forms of class music or class singing.
In secondary school II (high school upper level), the subject of music helps to enable our students to further develop their artistic and aesthetic identity, to develop their creative and musical design potential and to expand their cultural orientation. In addition, they should deepen their ability to reflect and judge aesthetically. In the introductory phase (grade 11), our students acquire skills that enable a fundamental professional discussion of music. This includes a broad content orientation and the systematic development of a repertoire of methods. These skills are expanded in the qualification phase (grades 12 and 13).
