Chanceswerk E.V.: Promoting learning for everyone

About Opportunitieswerk e.V.

Since September 2013, Chanceswerk e.V. has been working with the Elisabeth-Selbert-Gesamtschule in order to be able to offer all students learning support beyond lessons in their own school.

Chancenwerk e.V. is a non-profit association that has been committed to fair educational opportunities throughout Germany – especially for disadvantaged students – since 2004. We offer learning at eye level with age-appropriate role models. Our concept is based on the

Principle “take help and give help”. Our offerings promote independent learning and social engagement. We help students strengthen their skills, improve their performance, develop their potential and discover their talents. Community cohesion and social interaction are also strengthened.

Our offer

We offer qualified learning support here at this school, which is supervised and accompanied by our practice leaders. Our team helps children and young people to learn school material, deepen it and prepare for class work.

The “learning cascade”

This is how it works: Students in grade 9 and above help younger children in grades 5 to 8 under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
For their commitment, students in grade 9 and above receive free tutoring in a problem subject of their choice from technically competent students. The young people are also learning tutors themselves and role models for the younger ones. This means everyone not only trains their specialist knowledge, but also their own social skills.

Costs

  • The learning support for students in grades 5-8 costs €20 per month per child. The children take part in two lessons per week. Learning support is free if you are entitled to funds from the Education and Participation Package (BuT). This means that benefits from the job center such as citizen’s benefit, housing benefit, social assistance or a child allowance are received.
  • Students from the 9th grade onwards take part in the learning cascade for free.
