Children and young people from families with low incomes can, for example, go on excursions and school trips, take advantage of music offerings, receive tutoring if necessary or take part in lunch together at school. The following information shows what is possible, who can receive the benefits and how to receive the funding.
Who can receive the benefits?
Are you or your children entitled to Benefits according to SGB II (in particular unemployment benefit II or social benefit), social assistance according to SGB XII, housing benefit or child supplement? Then you are also entitled to benefits according to the education and participation package.
What services are available?
(School) trips and (class) trips lasting several days
If the school or daycare center organizes trips lasting several days or one-day trips, your child will not be excluded. The costs for this will be covered.
School supplies package
Pupils receive 100 euros for school equipment on August 1st and 50 euros on February 1st. This is intended to make purchases such as school bags, sports equipment and writing, calculating and drawing materials (e.g. fountain pens, crayons, calculators, notebooks) easier.
Student transport costs
Students with a reduced student ticket can have their own contribution refunded.
Learning support for students
Children sometimes need support to achieve their learning goals at school. If tutoring is necessary because the school cannot help, the necessary costs of suitable learning support can be covered.
Lunch subsidy
If schools and daycare centers offer a shared lunch, the costs of the shared lunch can be reimbursed for eligible children.
For further information about the individual benefits and support in completing the application, please contact:
- at your job center (if you receive unemployment benefit II or social benefit) or at your city or district administration (if you receive child allowance, housing benefit or social assistance).
